Chief Master Sergeant Jose A. LugoSantiago is the Command Chief Master Sergeant for the 628th Air Base Wing, Joint Base Charleston, South Carolina. He is the principal advisor to the Commander, Joint Base Charleston on mission effectiveness, professional development, military readiness, and utilization of the command's enlisted force and takes action to address shortfalls. In this capacity, he is also the functional manager for the wing's group superintendents and the installation first sergeants, providing senior enlisted leadership that affects over three thousand Airmen. The 628 ABW is the host to 53 DoD and Federal agencies, servicing over 79,000 Airmen, Sailors, Soldiers, Marines, Coast Guardsmen, civilians, dependents and retirees across Joint Base Charleston, overseeing $2.0 billion in base property and capital assets and controlling an annual budget exceeding $172 million.
Chief LugoSantiago entered the Air Force in 1990. His diverse background includes service in three career fields: Precision Measurement Equipment Laboratory (Metrology and Calibration), Professional Military Education, and Air Force Basic Military Training Instructor (MTI). He has served in various assignments in the CONUS and Overseas to include deploying to Al Udeid AB in support of Operations IRAQI and ENDURING FREEDOM and Combined Joint Task Force Horn of Africa. Prior to his current assignment, the Chief served as Squadron Superintendent, 86th Maintenance Squadron, Ramstein Air Base Germany, where he was responsible for orchestrating maintenance to sustain flying operations of 14 C-130Js and AMC enroute aircraft, as well as providing oversight over the Air Force's largest precision, measurement, test equipment centralized repair facility.
