Joint Base Charleston Public Affairs provides trusted counsel to our leaders; builds, maintains and strengthens airmen morale and readiness; enhances public trust and support and achieves global influence and deterrence.

We seek to inform decision makers and communicate the service's requirements, capabilities, actions and achievements to the world and keep the Charleston community fully informed with complete and accurate information. Our programs are designed to increase public understanding of the Joint Base Charleston mission.

The Public Affairs office has three major areas of responsibility: internal information, media relations and community relations.

Through these three areas, they ensure that both the Joint Base Charleston community and the general public are kept well informed, and that strong relations are maintained between the 628th Air Base Wing and the local community.

From producing the base newspaper to maintaining the public web site, as well as providing information to local, national and international media outlets, the public affairs staff reviews and approves information that can be released to openly and accurately communicate with the base's various publics.

Internal information is responsible for passing news and general information to Charleston airmen and their families through the base website, newspaper and commander's access channel. The Internal Information section supports the wing commander and base leadership by maintaining effective avenues of communication with the base community, consisting of active-duty and retired airmen, their family members and government and contracted employees. Most notable among the Internal information items produced by Public Affairs is the weekly base newspaper, the Airlift Dispatch. Internal information also maintains and regulates this website. Additionally, the section is responsible for programming and operating the Commander's Access Channel on the base cable TV system.

Media relations is responsible for passing information to news media outlets, responding to media inquiries, coordinating interviews, and organizing media visits to Joint Base Charleston.

Community relations is responsible for educating the public about Joint Base Charleston and building a strong partnership with local communities by coordinating requests for Air Force participation in public events, including the volunteers, speakers, honor guard, and flyovers; running the base tour program to include schools, colleges, reunion groups; and conducting tours and orientation flights for civic leaders from throughout the U.S.
