Crew Chiefs from the 437th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron perform the first recovery and maintenance checks on a new C-17 Globemaster III delivered April 25, 2013, to Joint Base Charleston – Air Base, S.C. The C-17 was delivered by Gen. Paul Selva, Air Mobility Command commander. Joint Base Charleston is scheduled to receive two additional C-17s this year, as Boeing completes work on the Air Force’s final Globemasters. The first C-17 to enter the Air Force’s inventory arrived at Charleston Air Force Base in June 1993. Steve Cadmus uses a ball rotary file at Joint Base Charleston – Air Base May 3 to modify a scallop ring so heat expansion will not cause cracking. Cadmus served in the Air Force for four years as an aircraft mechanic on C-5 Galaxys, C-141 Starlifters and F-4E Phantoms. He performs several modifications to the F-117 engine, which is later used on the C-17 Globemaster III. Cadmus is a United Airlines aircraft mechanic.
